Animal-Assisted Therapy Major

This major is a program that prepares health and human service professionals to integrate the use of animals into their treatment practices in order to facilitate change in people with mental and physical disabilities.

Includes instruction in psychology, psychology of disabilities, animal behavior, animal training, the human-animal bond, integration of animals into therapeutic settings, and ethical and cultural issues.

What can you do with a major/degree in Animal-Assisted Therapy Major?

Animal-Assisted therapy, activities, and education are integrated into many careers.  For example, therapy aides, physical therapists, recreational therapists, psychologists, social workers, special education teachers, and nursing.  As an Animal-Assisted Therapist, you are likely self-employed, and work in such environments as rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, elder-care facilities, public/private school systems, and hospitals.
