Fire Science/Fire-fighting Major

This is a program focusing on the theory and practice of fires and fire-fighting.

Includes instruction in fire chemistry and physics, combustible materials, computer science, building construction, fire codes and related laws, fire hydraulics, fire command, fire prevention/inspection, fire protection systems, fire suppression systems, fire/arson investigation, occupational safety, equipment operation, emergency medicine and communications.

What can you do with a major/degree in Fire Science/Fire-Fighting Major?

A high school diploma and on-the-job training will get you started with a career in Fire Science/Fire-Fighting.  You may wish to expand your formal education so that career advancement opportunities are available to you.  An associate degree may lead to jobs such as fire educator, fire code investigator, and fire administrator.  A bachelor’s will likely position you well for a career in fire department management or as a specialist.
