Structural Engineering Major

A Structural Engineering major/degree program will prepare individuals to apply mathematical and scientific principles to the design, development and operational evaluation of materials and systems used in building load-bearing structures for various purposes and in different environments, including buildings, roads, rail lines, bridges, dams, conduits, offshore platforms and work stations, and other structural shells; and the analysis of structural problems such as, failure, fabrication, safety, and natural hazards.

Includes instruction in structural analysis, physics, engineering and design fundamentals, calculus, hydrology, and foundation engineering.

What can you do with a major/degree in Structural Engineering?

With a major/degree in Structural Engineering, you will likely have a career that includes analyzing blueprints, determining water flow rates and material stress factors, estimating material costs, and conducting safety studies.

Trade Associations and Professional Organizations in Structural Engineering

Professional associations are groups of specialists dedicated to topics in particular fields. Professional associations provide a wealth of online resources, some of which are geared specifically towards students. These organizations typically also host conferences and events, providing great opportunities for learning and networking across your field of interest.
