Food Service, Waiter/Waitress, and Dining Room Management/Manager Major

This is a major/degree program that prepares individuals to serve food to customers in formal or informal settings.

Includes instruction in the nutritional, sensory, and functional properties of food and its ingredients; food services principles; table and counter services; dining room operations and procedures; service personnel supervision and management; communication skills; business math; safety; and sanitation.

If you choose to pursue a career in Food Service, Waiter/Waitress, and Dining Room Management/Manager, you most likely will work full time in restaurants ranging from fast-food to fine dining, and depending on the establishment, evening, weekend, and holiday work can be common.  Careers typically range from entry-level where you likely will find yourself at the food service and waiter/waitress level, to managers where you may work coordinating the activities of the kitchen and dining room staff to ensure that customers are served properly and in a timely manner.
